WEEK 7 — TOPIC: IRAQ (REQUIRED RESPONSE & BLOG Assignment)

October 17th, 2006 by mioli2007 in aSsInGmEnTs · No Comments

3) In your blog, write a longer, researched, thought-through, linked and refferenced post using quotes, links, your own critical thinking and information gathered from numerous sources on this topic:       Why We Invaded Iraq: what were the reasons, and were they good enough?

We invated Iraq because Bush said that they had weapons of mass distruction. So we went to war. Also they knew that Suddam Hussein has  already used his weapons on his own people and if he did have ahold of the weapons he would kill god knows how many! But we have not found those weapons of mass destruction. And her are some other reasons why Bush invaded Iraq: Revenge; because Saddam Hussein tryed to kill Bush’s father, Oil; Iraq has about 10% of the worlds oil, more than the U.S., Canada and Mexico combined, Bush’s domestic agenda; as long as we are at or near war he can accuse anyone questioning anything like tax cuts for the rich. Below are the links that i got my answers from. In a way the reasons are good because what if they did have weapons of mass distruction and we didnt invad Iraq. But we should of just went in searched and then left not start a whole war and start killing thousands of people.

Which of your strengths can help you do what you need to do in order to be successful with this blogging assignment?

  • In your blog, write a paragraph about this. List again your top five strengths.

Just look at that list! All five of them are really great strengths to have, don’t you think?

  • Explain how you can use one (or two, or three) of your strengths to do well with your work.

My five Strengths

First Strength : Humor and Playfulness

You like to laugh and tease. Bringing smiles to other people is important to you. You try to see the light side of all situations.

Second Strength: Honesty, Authenticity, and Genuineness

You are an honest person, not only by speaking the truth but by living your life in a genuine and authentic way. You are down to earth and without pretense; You are a “real” person.

Third Strength: Capacity to Love and be Loved

You value close relationships with others, In particular those in which sharing and caring are reciprocated. The people to whom you feel most close are the same people who feel most close to you.

Fourth Strength: Social Intelligence

You are aware of the motives and feelings of other people. You know what to do to fit in to different social situations, and you know what to do to put others at ease.

Fifth Strength: Leadership

You Excel at the tasks of leadership: encouraging a group to get things done and preserving harmony within the group by making everyone feel included. You do a good job organizing activities and seeing that they happen

Out of my top five strengths i would say the one that is going to help me with my BLOGGING is my Second strength (honesty, authenticity, and genuineness). I say this one because the other four just don’t fit with the help of BLOGGING. All i reall have to do is be honest and say what i think about the assignments that are givin and do the work. I picked this one because its me honest and basically blunt, and i tell you what i learned and know. And by me going with this i will get through BLOGGING!!!

HOW MUCH TRUTH/ HOW MUCH SPIN?

 Mark Foley

The Foley scandal was about him sending sexually explicit and solicitative e-mails and instant messages to a 16 year old minor. Foley was chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, which introduced legislation targeting sexual predators and creating stricter guidelines for tracking them. After the Mark Foley scandal broke out in late September 2006, Mark resigned from the United States House of Representatives on September 29, 2006. His lawyer issued a statement say ing that he never had sexual contact with a minor. After resigning Foley check him self into a rehab center. Announced through his attorney that he is alcoholic, was himself molested as a teenager, and that he is gay.

But does not give him no right to send  sexually explicit and solicitative e-mails to a minor!!

Herea are the instant messages that were sent:

Maf54: do you really do it face down
Teen: ya
Maf54: kneeling
Teen: well i dont use my hand…i use the bed itself
Maf54: where do you unload it
Teen: towel
Maf54: really
Maf54: completely naked?
Teen: well ya
Maf54: very nice
Teen: lol
Maf54: cute butt bouncing in the air

Maf54: I want to see you
Teen: Like I said not til feb…then we will go to dinner
Maf54: and then what happens
Teen:  we eat…we drink…who knows…hang out…late into the night
Maf54: and
Teen:  I dunno
Maf54: dunno what
Teen:  hmmm I have the feeling that you are fishing here…
im not sure what I would be comfortable with…well see

Maf54: ok..i better go vote..did you know you would have this effect on me
Teen:   lol I guessed
Teen:   ya go vote…I don’t want to keep you from doing our job
Maf54: can I have a good kiss goodnight
Teen:   :-*
Teen:   <kiss>

Maf54: we will be adjourned ny then
Teen:   oh good
Maf54: by
Maf54: then we can have a few drinks
Maf54: lol
Teen:   yes yes ;-)
Maf54: your not old enough to drink
Teen:   shhh…
Maf54: ok
Teen:   that’s not what my ID says
Teen:   lol
Maf54: ok
Teen:   I probably shouldn’t be telling you that huh
Maf54: we may need to drink at my house so we don’t get busted

The FBI and  Florida officials for possible criminal violations investedgated the scandal. The Former FBI agent Brad Garrett commented that the acctions of Foley add up tosoliciting underage children for sex, and what it amounts to is serious both state and federal violations that could potentially get you a number of years.

Ok well since he said that he never had never actually met the minor then he got what he deserved for the  sexually explicit and solicitative e-mails and instant messages that he sent. I mean i really dont know what to say the guy got what he got and thats that its not up to me its all on the judge and jury.

Chose four strengths that you think would be in Spiderman’s Top Five. Write three or four sentences about each of the four, convincing me that Spiderman had outstanding strength in those areas. Each strength should include an example from one of the movies. (Note: I am not convinced by “He had kindness like with Aunt May.” A second-grader could say that. Show me that you understand the strength you’re writing about and understand how it is a demonstrated strength of Spiderman / Peter Parker’s personality/character.)

one: Love of learning: Mastering new skills, topics, and bodies of knowledge, whether on one’s own or formally; obviously related to the strength of curiosity but goes beyond it to describe the tendency to add systematically to what one knows

Spiderman has love of learning because dont you think if you found out you could do all that stuff dont you think you would of went to the doctor and been like what the hell is wrong with me?Yeah! but not spiderman he wanted to figure out what this was for what i can do with this and so forth. So this is why he has Love of learning.

Two:Love: Valuing close relations with others, in particular those in which sharing and
caring are reciprocated; being close to people

Spiderman is loved and loves really everyone exspecially his aunt, uncle, and maryjane. The reason i picked Love fo his strengths is because he loves Maryjane and his family. This shows because he finds the guy who killed his uncle and saves Maryjane.

Three:Citizenship [social responsibility, loyalty, teamwork]: Working well as a member of a group or team:being loyal to the group; doing one’s share.

I would say this strength falls in were hes always there for everyone and people depend on him and he knows that. Its like  the city and him are a big team. They call for him when they need him and hes there to help.

Four:Vitality [zest, enthusiasm, vigor, energy]: Approaching life with excitement and
energy; not doing things halfway or halfheartedly; living life as an adventure;
feeling alive and activated

He aproches everything with courage and knows he really he can do it no matter what its is and doesnt let life get him down. He finishs what he starts. And defenetly feeling alive and activated like when he takes on the green goblin thing.

TYPOLOGY TEST RESULTS

Disaffected

Based on your answers to the questionnaire, you most closely resemble survey respondents within the Disaffected typology group. This does not mean that you necessarily fit every group characteristic or agree with the group on all issues.

Disaffecteds represent 9 percent of the American public, and 10 percent of registered voters.

Basic Description
Disaffecteds are deeply cynical about government and unsatisfied with both their own economic situation and the overall state of the nation. Under heavy financial pressure personally, this group is deeply concerned about immigration and environmental policies, particularly to the extent that they affect jobs. Alienated from politics, Disaffecteds have little interest in keeping up with news about politics and government, and few participated in the last election.

I really dont care about immagrants and them taking are jobs. I mean everyone has to make money somehow right? So why worry if they know how to do the job might as well pay someone who knows how to then someone who will half ass it.

Defining Values
Despite personal financial strain – and belief that success is mostly beyond a person’s control – Disaffecteds are the only moderate supporters of government welfare and assistance to the poor. Strongly oppose immigration as well as regulatory and environmental policies on the grounds that government is ineffective and such measures cost jobs.

Yeah i do support the welfare because there is single parents who work there ass of to take care of there  kid(s). I mean you just cant have one job and expect to raise a child. They need that help expecially when the other parent is not paying for nothing they cant work 24 hrs. a day. And the jobs now are not enough to pay for the costy things in life!!! Now my family on the other hand we work are ass off me and my 5 other siblings help are dad run his buissness so we can have all the things we need and want because hes raised us for 7 years by him self and with the help of my grandparents.

Who They Are
Less educated (70% have attended no college, compared with 49% nationwide) and predominantly male (57%). While a majority (60%) leans Republican, three-in-ten are strict independents, triple the national rate. Disaffecteds live in all parts of the country, though somewhat more are from rural and suburban areas than urban.

I completly disagree with the fact they say they are less educated. I’am very well educated i’m going to get my diploma and move on to college to become a Pharmacy Tech. How is that for uneducated!!!

Lifestyle Notes
Somewhat higher percentage report having a gun in the home than the national average, and 42% report someone in their house has been unemployed in the past year.

Ok the whole thing about being unemployed for the year is sure not my blood family we work all the time and for me for example i work a day job and night job and school, and did i meantion still have to make time for my family and boyfriend and i’ve been doing this for about 2 years and still going. Now on the other hand my sisters baby daddy hes been unemployed for the past i dont know how many years. but thats a differnt story and not my blood.

2004 Election
Bush 42%, Kerry 21%. Nearly a quarter (23%) said they didn’t vote in the last election.

Well i have to say yeah i didn’t vote because im not 18 yet but soon to be. and even when I turn 18 I don’t thing I’m going to vote anyways thats just me.

Party ID
68% Independent/No Preference, 30% Republican, 2% Democrat (60% Rep/LeanRep)

Media Use
Disaffecteds have little interest in current events and pay little attention to the news. No single medium or network stands out as a main source.

If the current event or the news is interesting to me yeah i’ll watch it otherwise why am i going to watch something that just bores the hell out of me??

Note: All descriptions and percentages are based on the national sample of adults surveyed by telephone in December.

“WHAT IS POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY?”

Positive Pshychology is a formula for happiness. There are three things that include the concerns of positive psychology they are the study of positive individual traits ( character, interests, talents, values) the study of institutions ( schools, families, communities, societies, businesses) and the study of positive subjective experiences ( pleaseure, fulfillment, well-being, happiness. Positive psychology need as much focus on strengths ass weakness, and as much interest in the best things in life as repairing the worst, And as much attention to fulfilling healthy lifes asa to healing the wounds of the ones that are sufering. Positive psychology also evolves around us what we do and what we are around is what makes us happy. from the small pleaseure like chocolate to the larger pleasures like LOVE and success. We need to be engaged to someone or something to also be happy. Are lifes must include activites and interests that capture us completley. We also need to know that are lifes are valuable and that we  are valued and we value. And what we doin are lifes does matter and make a difference. If we try to look for happiness instead of making it it would be impossile to keep that happiness.

WRITING 1: WHAT ARE OTHER “GOOD THINGS” ABOUT PEOPLE

Some good things about people I wouild have to say is trust. Trust is like when someone tell you something like a secret that they want you to keep and you keep it. Or trust is if someone gives you something to hold onto there trusting you to keep it safe. Another good thing about people is talent. Everyone has talent. Talent is something you are good at like Football, Basketball, Gymnastics, and even if its the little simple things like baking cookies its a talent. Also there is loyalty. Loyalty is be honest, never lying and always trustworthy, never cheat if in a relationship.

WRITING 2: THINK ABOUT A TIME IN YOUR LIFE THAT YOU SHOWED YOU HAD ONE OF THESE SIGNATURE STRENGTHS

About almost two years ago my oldest sister told me she was pregnet and not to tell my father. She told me everything like when she went to the doctor, how the baby was doing and so forth. I really felt like wow my sister is trusting me to keep this secret and I did. I always thought that she would tell my father sooner than what she did so it wouldn’t have to be a secret no more. But shure enough my sister didnt tell him till her last two months of her pregnacy. Then when everyone found out I knew they were all mad at me because I didn’t say anything. But know I’ve earned trust from my sister.

WRITING 3: MY FIVE SIGNATURE STRENGTHS

I took the same quiz as Mr. Minton because I dont know what my five signature strengths are and found out what they are and they very much are like me I realized while reading my results.

First Strength : Humor and Playfulness

You like to laugh and tease. Bringing smiles to other people is important to you. You try to see the light side of all situations.

Even when i’m in the worstmood you will find me smiling.I don’t like to see people down so I try to do what I can to cheer them up.

Second Strength: Honesty, Authenticity, and Genuineness

You are an honest person, not only by speaking the truth but by living your life in a genuine and authentic way. You are down to earth and without pretense; You are a “real” person.

I’m honest about questions people ask me. I tell themhow itis and hate constant liars. Although white lies are ok sometimes depends on what about. I’m a blunt person. I like to just be out there doing thigs, having fun not being home.

Third Strength: Capacity to Love and be Loved

You value close relationships with others, In particular those in which sharing and caring are reciprocated. The people to whom you feel most close are the same people who feel most close to you.

I’m very close to the ones i love alot. Expecially my family and boyfriend. I would hate to see anything wrong happen to any of them. I really value my family and boyfriend because they will always be there for me and without them i’m not me.

Fourth Strength: Social Intelligence

You are aware of the motives and feelings of other people. You know what to do to fit in to different social situations, and you know what to do to put others at ease.

I’ve always had people talk to me about all there problems I really just don’t know why but they do. They say I understand them and listen. I’m always trying to help those in need and calm people down i’m actually good at talking to people and unerstanding them.

Fifth Strength: Leadership

You Excel at the tasks of leadership: encouraging a group to get things done and preserving harmony within the group by making everyone feel included. You do a good job organizing activities and seeing that they happen.

I’m defanitly a leader and not a follower. I like to encourage people to acomplish things and get things done. I include everyone even if I’m not at the best with them… or at least i try…hehehe. I’am a good organizer people say. I do enjoy organizing things and hope they actually happen.

4 THINS I LEARNED ABOUT A BLOG THAT I DID NOT KNOW

  • A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web.
  • It’s a kind of continual tour, with a human guide who you get to know.
  • A hierachy of text, images, media objects and data that is viewd in an HTML browser.
  • Personal thoughts and web links.

THE BLOG I LIKED BEST

I would have to say the blog that I liked best was one by Danny Miller called ” jew eat yet?” http://dannymiller.typepad.com/blog/I like the way Danny set his blog up very simple and gets to the point on his page and words. There is a Variaty of things to read about. Like TV, Pop culture, Celebritys, Family, Education, Religion, Politics & Race. Also a list of blogs he has read.

While on this page I found ablog about Marilyn Monroe. Which I really enjoyed reading since I like her so much. It talked about how she fet in her own word from tapes from the L.A.Times. In the end of the page there is a place for comments about the article which i also enjoyed reading. I always like to hear what people have to say.

This Blog is better than the other one i visited because it has more of a varity of things to look at and read. The other one is ok to but it doesnt have much, But its funny. It has videos, pictures, and lil games. It has a good name, pauseatwork.blogspot.com. This blog is just basically a quick look at things like a little pause a work. It’s ok i visit this site every know and then you know when i need to pause at work.

 WHAT IS A BLOG

A blog is an updated site of comments and links. It is also a kind of continual tour of a human mind that eventually you get to know. I went to dictionary.com and found these defanictions of a blog. An online diary; personal chronological log of thoughts published on a web page. A personal website that provides updated headlines and news articles of other sites that are of interest to the user , also may include commentaries and recomendations by the user. I would still have to say im not much a blogger. so the blog that i still like is pause at work. Since i’m at work most of the tiime I dont have time to play on the net. It has quick, simple, funny things that I like and just take a quick look at while i’m taklin a break at work. The URL is http://pauseatwork.blogspot.com/.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A NICKNAME?

Yes, i’ve had many of them. The first nickname i ever got was Mandy. My mom gave it to me and she still calls me Mandy til this day. I don’t know why exaclly. I just figured it’s short verzion of my name, but i like it. I always thought it was cute. Then i have MIMI wich my friend calls me. She jus really started calling me MIMI one day and it stuck. It’s ok i guess. Then back in middle school my one of my friends called me TWINKIE. Yeah we all had hostess nick names. Then there was UH-HUH. You know like UH-HUH from the little rascils, this one was givin to me because at one point i just always saids UH-HUH. So theres my nicknames that i’ve had, theres more but not going to list them. Ans Nickname is spelled Nickname. Found it on ditionary.com.

WHO IS CLYDE THOMBAUGH?

Clyde Tombaugh was an American astronamer who discovered Pluto in 1930. Born in Illinois. His family moved to Burdett, Kansas were Tombaugh built his first telescope and sent his drawings of his observations of Jupiter, Mars to an astronamical observatory named Lowell Observatory in Arizona.

VEILED4ALLAH

This page i found more interesting to read because it’s not boring and is sum what interesting. The thoughts of muslim women are on this page. It mostly has thought about how muslims are getting treated differnt really since 9/11.
